DAY 1: TIRANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – KRUJA (APPROX - 20 KM)

Touch down at Mother Teresa International Airport in the capital Tirana. Meet your guide and driver for the hour-long and 43km transfer north to the medieval mountain city of Krujë. Along the way take in views of Mount Dajt National Park. Explore the impressive Krujë Castle, once home to national hero Skanderbeg as he fought off Ottoman rule. Wander through Skanderbeg Museum within the castle grounds. Afterwards, browse the authentic wares at Krujë's historic Old Bazaar filled with Ottoman-era architecture. DAY 2: DURRES - DIVJAKA - BERAT (APPROX - 122 KM)

In Durres, Albania's second-largest city, our journey begins with the exploration of the ancient 2nd-century AD Roman amphitheater. Immerse yourself in the rich history as we wander through cobblestone streets adorned with remnants of baths and Byzantine walls. These architectural echoes serve as a testament to Durres' strategic port location, spanning two millennia of cultural significance. Our next destination brings us to Divjaka National Park—a haven for nature enthusiasts. Here, amidst the tranquil beauty, we could spot rare Dalmatian pelicans, cormorants, and herons, adding a touch of wildlife to our adventure. As the day unfolds, our journey culminates in Berat, often referred to as the 'town of a thousand windows.' This enchanting locale is characterized by its white Ottoman houses, gracefully clustered on the slopes of a hilltop fortress that radiates a warm glow during the sunset. DAY 4: VLORA - LLOGARA - PORTO PALERMO - BUTRINT - SARANDA (APPROX - 156 KM)

In the morning, we travel down the rugged Albanian Riviera coastline, stopping to photograph the Ali Pasha fortress dramatically situated on a small peninsula. In the afternoon, we explore Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site holding evidence of Greek, Roman and Byzantine rule, with structures dating back to the 8th century BC. DAY 5: SARANDA - LEKURSI CASTLE - BLUE EYE - GJIROKASTR (APPROX - 85 KM)

Today the journey begins with a a visit to Lekursi Castle. We will start the day with a visit to the famous Birra Korca Brewery for its exceptional brews. Our journey then leads to the enchanting lakeside town of Pogradec, extending further to Tushemisht—once the most favored spot of the Albanian dictator, Enver Hoxha. DAY 8: POGRADEC - OHRID - POGRADEC (APPROX - 55 KM)

Today, we'll venture into North Macedonia with a short transfer, starting our exploration at the revered Sveti Naum Monastery. Marvel at the golden-flecked frescoes and inhale the rich incense in the towering granite churches connected by an underground passageway. The lakeshore offers a serene setting, shaded by enormous willows, perfect for contemplation at this holy site founded in the 10th century. In Ohrid's Old Town, our expert guide unveils the vivid stories behind the medieval frescoes inside the cerulean St. Sophia Cathedral. Explore the active religious center of the Monastery of St. Panteleimon, adorned with intricately carved capitals and vivid scenes depicting the last judgment since the 12th century. Uncover more than 3,000 years of history at the Robevi archaeological site, revealing remnants from the Bronze Age, the classic antiquity of Philip II and Alexander the Great, to the late medieval era. DAY 9: POGRADEC - ELBASAN - TIRANA (APPROX - 147 KM)

Before departing to Tirana, we'll make a quick stop in Elbasan, founded during Illyrian and Roman times, reaching prominence in the Byzantine medieval era. In the 15th century, the city became a significant Ottoman center. Notably, the iconic King Mosque, built during this Ottoman period, stands as a timeless testament to Elbasan's diverse cultural heritage. City Walls, also dating back to the 15th century, showcase Elbasan's strategic importance and enduring architectural prowess. to view remnants of its surrounding 15th century Ottoman-built walls and the beautiful King Mosque. DAY 10: TIRANA – DEPARTURE ( APPROX - 25 KM)

On our final day, will visit two remarkable museums. The National Museum of History beckons, offering a comprehensive journey through the annals of Albania's past. Here, artifacts and exhibits weave together a narrative that spans the nation's rich cultural heritage. Then we move to the colossal Bunk'Art museum, a unique testament to Albania's complex history during the communist era under the rule of Enver Hoxha. Housed within expansive government bunkers, this museum provides an immersive experience, shedding light on the challenges and narratives of a bygone era. As we navigate the labyrinthine corridors, the Bunk'Art museum unveils the layers of history that were once concealed within these formidable structures. Board the buss for a short transfer to the airport to board the flight home.
