DAY 1 - TIRANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – TIRANA ( APPROX -20 KM )

Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel for check-in and then embark on a guided tour of the capital, boasting a blend of Ottoman, Italian, and communist-style architecture, creating a visually stimulating tapestry for wanderers. DAY 2 – TIRANA - SHKODER (APPROX 105 KM)

After breakfast, head to Shkoder, the traditional centre of the Gheg cultural region and one of the oldest cities in Europe. Situated in the north-western part of Albania, giving its name to the biggest lake in the Balkans. The oldest wall of the Shkodra castle dates from the 1st millennium BCE. The Roman historian Livy cited the town as the capital of the Illyrian king Gent, who fought the Romans in 168 B.C. The city’s architecture is highly influenced by the Venetian style. The city’s favorable geographic position has always been an important trading mark through the centuries, making it possible for different civilizations to encounter. We will visit Rozafa castle ; a massive stronghold that stands guard over the city like an enormous sentry, offering tremendous scenery of the lake and the three rivers melting all together in the Adriatic Sea. Shkodra Cathedral; a cultural and historical landmark, reflecting the city's rich heritage. Marubi National Museum of Photography; showcasing a captivating history of Albanian photography. DAY 3 – SHKODER – THETH – SHKODER (APPROX - 152 KM)

After breakfast, the journey continues to Theth, a serene and untouched village nestled in the Albanian Alps, surrounded by majestic mountains, clear streams, and traditional stone houses. The simplicity and beauty of nature blend seamlessly with local life, making it a peaceful and charming destination. The pure beauty of nature dances hand in hand with the authenticity of local living, creating a tapestry of serenity and simplicity that resonates with every visitor's soul. We will visit some of the local attractions of the village such as the stone built catholic church, Lock – in in tower, used under the old 'kanun' to solve crimes amongst local families. Next, walk along the river and reach the Grunas waterfall. Return to the village for a lunch break in one of guesthouses, trying the local dishes cooked with organic ingredients from the farms nearby. DAY 4 – SHKODER – KRUJE – BERAT ( APPROX - 220 KM)

Today we travel to Kruja, steeped in historical importance, stands as the symbol of Albanian resistance against the Ottoman Empire, notably as the birthplace of Skanderbeg, Albania's national hero. Explore the formidable Kruja Castle, perched on a hill, offering not only a glimpse into the city's defensive past but also stunning panoramic views of the surroundings. Delve into the life and legacy of Skanderbeg at the Skanderbeg Museum within the castle walls, featuring artifacts and exhibits that narrate the heroic tales of this national icon. Stroll through the bustling Old Bazaar, one of the Balkans' oldest and largest, where cobbled streets are lined with shops, showcasing local crafts, souvenirs, and a vibrant cultural atmosphere. Optional lunch on your own in a local restaurant. The trip resumes toward Berat, known as the "City of a Thousand Windows," captivates with its UNESCO-listed historic center, characterized by well-preserved Ottoman architecture and a rich cultural tapestry. Berat, with its citadel where people still reside within its walls, is home to the intriguing Onufri Icon Museum inside St. Mary's Church. Onufri, a renowned Albanian icon painter from the 16th century, gained fame for his use of a distinctive red color. The church's chapel, until the 1970s, safeguarded two of the world's oldest codices beneath its altar. DAY 5 – BERAT – ELBASAN - POGRADEC – KORCE (APPROX - 190 KM)

Following the ancient road from Rome to Constantinople, the Via Egnatia, our journey takes us through Elbasan, where the country's oldest mosque awaits. Elbasan is renowned for its pastries, making it a perfect stop for snacks or lunch. The trip resumes towards Pogradec, sitting on the banks of Lake Ohrid, one of Europe's deepest and oldest lakes. Enjoy its unique ecosystem, home to special flora and fauna, most famous for Ohrid trout—a regional delicacy best enjoyed on a sun-drenched terrace. Our adventure continues through the captivating mountain landscapes of the country, offering breathtaking views during the bus ride. Our final destination is Korça, situated at a crossroads to Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Turkey. Known as 'Little Paris in Albania,' Korça boasts French-style villas and a vibrant French coffee culture. DAY 6 – KORCE – VOSKOPOJA – KORCE ( APPROX - 60 KM )

We continue Korca visits, exploring the historic heart of Korça, where cobbled streets host a lively bazaar with local crafts and vibrant cafes. Next to the Mirahori Mosque, a cultural gem dating back to the 15th century. Next to Orthodox Cathedral of Christ Resurrection, admiring the grandeur as a symbol of religious significance. A short transfer will take us to Voskopoja, also known as Moschopolis, or the “city of shepherds”, it was once the unofficial capital of the Vlachs, an often (but not exclusively) nomadic people who spoke a language similar to Romanian. In the mountains west of Korçë they built their own miniature Oxford, complete with an academy, printing presses and ornate churches. The town flourished for a century before being sacked by Ali Pasha, a warlord known as “the Muslim Bonaparte”, at the end of the 18th century, after which it sank into near obscurity. Nowadays, Voskopojë is a pleasant village in a small valley surrounded by fir-covered mountains. The press and academy are gone, but you can still see masterpieces by David Selenica and other Albanian icon painters in its many churches. We visit the Saint-Nicolas church, with colorful frescoes of saints inside. Return to Korca, free time to further explore the city on your own. Dinner and Overnight in Korca – 4* Hotel ( B, D)

DAY 7 – KORCE – ERSEKE ( ECO-FARM) - PERMET – GJIROKASTRA (APPROX - 195 KM )

Yesterday we already discovered how beautiful the mountains are, time to explore them better! We drive on over the White Mountains with beautiful views of Albania. The peaks around us are covered with snow most of the year. Enroute to Permet, we visit Farma Sotira, one of the first agritourist farms born in the Albania tourism sector . Built with passion and love over a small paradise in the natural reserve of Germenj -Shelegur , Farma Sotira is today one of the most visited destinations of agrotourism and nature tours, due to its completely natural cycle , and family-run structure. After a winding descent we reach the town of Permet, in the middle the most important wine region of the country. Free time for lunch in one of the local restaurants in the area. The trip resumes towards Gjirokastra, an UNESCO site and museum town with beautiful & distinctive well preserved ottoman style architecture. It is built against a mountain, and although flats were built around the old center in the 1950s and 1960s, the old Ottoman center is still completely intact. Dinner in a local restaurant. DAY 8 – GJIROKASTRA – ANTIGONEA PARK – GJIROKASTRA ( APPROX - 40 KM)

A short transfer will take us to the Monastery of Spile, Monastery of Spile, often referred to as the Church of Saint Mary, dating back to 1620. Accompanied by our knowledgeable guide, we'll explore the archaeological park of Antigonea, a city with a captivating history – born out of love and ultimately succumbing to hatred. Constructed by King Piro for his beloved Antigona, this ancient city narrates a tale that spans back to the 3rd century BC. Following the exploration, return to Gjirokastra for an independent lunch. Visit the medieval Argjiro Castle and Skenduli House, a 300-year-old mansion that serves as a showcase for the skills of Gjirokastra's masons and builders, along with depicting the enduring traditions of living in an extended family. This excursion offers a glimpse into a bygone era, highlighting the architectural finesse of the time and shedding light on the cultural significance of familial bonds within the community. DAY 9 – GJIROKASTRA – BLUE EYE – BUTRINT – SARANDA (APPROX-90 KM)

DAY 10 – SARANDA – PORTO PALERMO – LLOGARA - VLORE (APPROX - 130 KM)

A pause in this captivating odyssey brings you to Porto Palermo, a destination steeped in history and crowned by the imposing Castle of Ali Pasha Tepelena. Explore the fortress that once guarded these shores and let the whispers of the past enchant your senses. The journey continues towards Vlora, with a scenic drive through Llogara offering an opportunity for a panoramic photo shoot. Afternoon a city tour in Vlora, beholding historical significance for Albania, as it hosted the First National Assembly where Albania declared independence from the Ottoman Empire on November 28, 1912. Our tour commences at "Flag Square" (Sheshi I Flamurit), where the Albanian Flag was raised during the proclamation of independence. DAY 11 – VLORE FULL DAY – BOAT RIDE & VISIT TO ZVERNEC MONASTERY ( APPROX - 11 KM)

Explore the wonders of Sazani Island with a photo stop from a nearby vantage point. Sail to Karaburum to visit the Haxhi Ali cave, Saint Jani, and Saint Vasil, immersing yourself in this captivating adventure. Onboard, enjoy music, indulge in a picnic packed lunch, and relish leisure time for sunbathing. Upon returning to the port, the journey continues as you pick up the coach for a transfer to the enchanting Zvernec Monastery. DAY 12 – VLORE – APOLLONIA – ARDENICA – DURRES - TIRANA (APPROX - 170 KM)

After breakfast depart for the archaeological site of Apollonia one of the most important ancient centres in Roman times on the famous Via Egnatia. Caesar chose to send his nephew Augustus Octavian to study oratory in Apollonia which is testimony to the importance of this ancient city as a learning centre. Visit the city and an Orthodox monastery turned into the archaeological museum of the site. Next visit to Ardenica Monastery, located 18 kilometers south of Lushnjë, Albania, is a renowned Eastern Orthodox monastery with a rich history. Constructed in 1282 by Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos after a victory against the Angevins, it gained fame as the site of the 1451 marriage between Skanderbeg, Albania's national hero, and Andronika Arianiti. In 1780, the monastery initiated a theological school, and despite a tragic fire in 1932 that destroyed its library with 32,000 volumes, it remains a cultural treasure. The Church of Saint Mary within the monastery showcases frescoes by the Zografi brothers, including one of saint John Kukuzelis, born in Durrës, Albania.
